I never saw this coming! Literally, I would have missed the whole thing unless one of the other folks on the Favikon Top 200 LinkedIn Creators list, tagged me in a LinkedIn post. I hadn’t even heard of the company not speaking of their ranking list of social media influencers.
But it happened: No. 39 on the list of top LinkedIn creators in Malaysia in October 2024 is nobody else than CocoLord himself. 🙂
As an individualist, I’m not much into listings based on countries, nationalities, and such things, but appearing on the same list as Tony Fernandes can’t hurt!
It appears that the list contains 200 high-profile people such as:
- Ministers of Malaysia
- Board members and CEOs of multinational corporations (e.g. Ericsson)
- Influential bankers
- Best-selling authors
- Deans of the top universities
- …and CocoLord
It has to be the coconuts, right?
Or perhaps the thousands of freelancing tips I’ve been sharing for the past 5½ years. You tell me!
My only regret is that my official nickname does not appear on the list… 😉
From what I understood, the descriptions are AI-made, which makes sense, so there’s no mention of CocoLord or any sign of my awesome caricature LinkedIn banner. On the other hand, it could confuse many who might not be sure whether CocoLord is actually a bigger honorary title than Prime Minister – it’s Malaysia after all!
But still, I take it.
Another thing is that I have no idea what that metric covers. Mine seems to be 82.6 out of 100 giving me the rank No. 39 whereas the No. 48 on the list has only 0.6 points less. And the No. 1 guy with 90.3 is only 7.7 points ahead. Hmm…
Anyway, the whole purpose of this little write-up is that I thought of a couple of things worth mentioning that some of you my dear freelancers might be able to utilize. Three, to be exact.
1) Well-connected connections
First things first: the obvious. When you get onto those kinds of lists where very few get the honor of being ranked, it’s easy to connect with the others. Yes, I had several LinkedIn connection requests from high-profile individuals who “were in the same boat,” so to speak.
Who doesn’t want to be connected to legendary entrepreneurs, CEOs, best-selling authors, and other high-profile people? Yeah! And who wouldn’t seize the opportunity of exchanging a few niceties and congratulations?
Connect away, chitchat a little, and see if there’s anything to be done together. You never know. Be social, it’s social media after all! I’ll keep you updated on what happens if anything, I promise…
2) Trial
The second part is obvious: my scientific curiosity expanded. I had to try Favikon! As I knew nothing about it, I just went and signed up using one of my Google accounts. This is how it looks:
The first thing you see is a filter for searching influencers.
Then you see a limited view of the search results.
As this is a free restricted version, the search results don’t show much of anything. The searches seem to consume credits that I don’t yet have. It’s a bit like any other AI-driven service these days. It will eat your credits just to test it out.
Then you can check out the other functions, e.g. the ranking list I was supposed to find myself on.
The worldwide rankings show more results.
And at least the top of the list for Malaysia looks like what I expected.
However, at this point, you won’t be able to scroll past the first page, it’s restricted because of using only the free plan.
I did find my profile eventually, though. Surprisingly, it was in the AI and Machine Learning category for some reason!
Here I am! This is what we’re always supposed to do: search for our own profiles, right?!?
I do use the hashtag AI occasionally on LinkedIn. Perhaps more and more this year… but it’s usually in the context of freelancing and solopreneurship rather than anything else.
I suppose there are very few who are based in Malaysia and posting about AI-related topics… low competition, easy to conquer (as if all this was intentional)!
What you can do with all these influencer profiles is apparently to keep track and do advertising deals with them. That’s where the business is: influencer marketing.
Tracking created for my own profile.
The next thing was that the Google account that I used for signing up wasn’t connected to my LinkedIn account in any way. So, the system suggested I should claim my profile.
Claiming my profile: start.
What I thought anyone honored to get any kind of recognition from Favikon should do is claim your social media profile to avoid nobody copying your online identity.
So, I did it with LinkedIn:
- Install Favikon’s Chrome extension
- Go to your profile page
- Let the extension refresh the page so that you can click on the Claim my profile button
Claiming my profile: almost done.
Then the system sends a confirmation email about the successful claim. Smooth.
When you then go further, you encounter what the deal is.
Paid features for creators. There’s a 14-day trial with full-version features!
So, what I gathered so far is that Favikon allows brands to connect with influencers and engage them in influencer marketing deals. And this is the platform to do it all for you, it covers all major social media sites which can help optimize advertising and marketing efforts.
Pretty neat and definitely a massive undertaking for the company!
3) Domain expansion!
While I only had a short look at Favikon at the time of writing this, I’m starting to see the point of a serious domain expansion here. That would be the third impact.
You probably know this meme… if you don’t, you must expand your domain a little, hahah!
As I’ve been reluctant to join any other social media platform besides LinkedIn ever since I quit Facebook (and that’s well over a decade ago), the fear of missing out has been there. I’d have fabulous photos of coconut trees and tropical beaches to put on Instagram, and I could easily think of other things to share there too.
Other platforms… not so sure yet. Anyway, without Favikon, I wouldn’t have even considered this. It triggered me!
Favikon Top 200 LinkedIn Creators List: Is it worth trying?
At this point, the whole new platform looks interesting and full of potential. Who knows, maybe CocoLord will make his move and do his domain expansion soon. It remains to be seen. That would result in an extension or a major edit to this article after figuring out the basics after the 14-day trial.
But as I’ve been trying to Mr. Nuts, my AI sidekick/the Head of Marketing back to business in some form or another, it might have to wait until some point in the year 2025.
In the meantime, feel free to follow and see everything I’ve done on LinkedIn to get this far! And keep in mind that if you’re thinking of domain expansion of your own, especially to the wild world of freelancing, check out the member pages!
